Why can't RIM put a good browser on the phones, like iPhone?

Posted July 27th, 2007 by mattm

I was playing with Andre's iPhone the other day, and by far the most interesting feature to me was that it had a "real" web browser on it. RIM, I want a good browser on my crackberry. Please.

Thanks.

Kenya Airlines site that queries the IATA visa system.

It considers embarkation point, transit point, alien status, etc.

I was in a minor accident last night.

So I'm down on Bank St. in Ottawa meeting a friend for Indian food. I find a street spot on the south-bound side of Bank, so I pull up parallel to the car in front of my spot, look behind me and see that a green chevy cavailier is behind me. The driver has stopped behind where I will park. Perfect. I begin my parallel parking, but the green car decides not to wait, and tries to pass me. Result: the front driver's side corner of my porsche cayenne rubs across the passenger side of the cavalier.

Aeroplan stupidity

Posted July 16th, 2007 by mattm

Last night I decided that I needed to book a one way trip from Ottawa to Toronto for Tuesday afternoon of this week. I certainly didn't want to pay for it, so I navigated over to Aeroplan.com, logged in and did a search.

Wow! About 5 flight choices. Some for 11,400 points, and better ("Classic Plus") for 14,500 points. The 2PM departure I wanted was 14,500 which...I guess is OK. So I chose the 2PM, entered all my details. End result: "A problem on our end... EC=NOPNR". I tried again, same deal.

Why Build Facebook Applications?

Posted July 13th, 2007 by mattm

A very short time ago, Facebook morphed from being a social network to being a “social networking platform”. What this means is they have opened up their API for third parties to produce plugin applications that users may add to their profiles. This move has been blindingly successful in that only a few weeks from launch there are 1766 applications written for the platform.

But I wonder why.

Getting the iPhone unlocked...steady progress.

I'm following this wiki where some guys are taking a serious swing at cracking the iPhone. My BlackBerry Curve is a superior messaging device to the iPhone, but I'd probably buy one anyway just as an evening phone...provided I didn't need an AT&T account.

Fox and Formula 1

Has anyone noticed that all the F1 races are on Fox now, instead of Speed? This is a bad thing, because Fox broadcasts the race later instead of live, and Fox has a bad habit of not honoring the race with their commercials...you often miss 2 or 3 laps when the go to commercial. They also put stupid ads over of the F1 race feed, so you often miss important notifications.

Eccelstone, if you are paying attention, give the race broadcast rights to a channel like Speed that knows and cares about racing.

The most important features of a successful social networking site are...

A couple of days ago I posed a question to my linked in network:

What do you consider the most important feature of a social networking application?

I'm just fishing here, trying to understand what a diverse group would come back with. There are so many social networking sites out there, linked in included, that the most important features of these applications are starting to be a tad obscured. If possible, please answer based on your own use of social network technologies...don't think too hard.
